Philadelphia’s Own, illReality, Hosts a Launch Party and Concert Not to be Missed!

On Friday March 20th, come “Journey to the illSide” during illReality’s launch party at the Painted Bride Art Center. illReality brings together Philadelphia’s finest dj’s, dancers, visual artists, martial artists and regulars from the hottest club scenes to host one of the premiere arts and social events of 2009. “Journey to the ill Side” provides fun, entertainment, and adventure for all walks of life. Imagine a stew of Olde City’s “First Fridays,” “Mo’ Money No Problems” on Thursdays at Silk City or “Say Yes Sundays” at the Walnut Room served up by “America’s Best Dance Crew” and “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon”…if you can’t, then you need to “Journey to the ill Side.” The evening will start with an art show and reception featuring the work of Adam Lovitz a.k.a. Thunk and party tunes provided by DJ Sammy Slice. The action will migrate to the theater for a spectacular live music and dance concert, featuring Sammy Slice with the Say Yes Band and the best dance and martial arts performers from across the nation, including illReality, RepStyles and Illadelph Phlave. The audience will dissolve onto the dance floor and we will finale with an audience-included jam and mingle session. “I want people to come out and have fun, experience phenomenal dancers and musicians that they can relate to—flirt, laugh, dance and have a genuine good time,” says illReality founder Vince Johnson.

“Journey to the illSide” is illReality’s first formal event. We honor a collection of contemporary North American social dance styles, including locking, popping, breaking, and house. These styles were created within the last forty years and pioneered in Black and Hispanic communities. Over time, they have become global dance forms, frequently portrayed in popular media. “Journey to the illSide” will allow audience members to engage with these styles up close and personal. The concert will highlight the conversational relationship between dancer and musician and dancer and dancer. The intimate staging will take the audience beyond the aesthetic and into the social nature of these dances.
