Martial Arts School Helps Families In Need

Martial Arts School Helps Families In Need
December, 2008

Elkton, MD – ATA Martial Arts is the #1 Rated Martial Arts Center in the Area and over the holidays they are putting together helpful holiday packages filled with non-perishable food items, toiletries, toys, blankets, and clothes to help those less fortunate.

In the spirit of the season, the ATA Martial Arts solutions provider is partnering up with Many local Churches including Immaculate Conception Parish in Cecil County to help get these packages in the hands of those who need it the most.
ATA Martial Arts is spending the month of December collecting the necessities that families and individuals need to have a happy and memorable holiday season, and they believe that happiness should be experienced by everyone during the holidays.

ATA Martial Arts Owner Jason Morgan says, it is important to help those in need during this time of year, “We believe that all individuals and families should celebrate the holiday season without having to worry about the necessities. That is why we are working with local churches and focused on giving everyone the opportunity to celebrate this special time of year.”

Since ATA Martial Arts of Elkton was founded in 1999, they have made a concerted effort to be a positive force in their community. In 2005 students of all ages came together with local businesses to raise $10,000 for the American Red Cross and the Hurricane Katrina relief project. More information on collection times and the ATA program can be found at www.ATAmaryland.com or by calling 410-329-2229.

Holiday Safety Tips Part 1

The Safe Shopping Guide

8 tips from ATA Self-Defense experts on how to be safe while shopping for holiday gifts.

December, 2008

Safe Shopping & Self Defense Guidelines

Park Right- Park in the most well lit area in the parking lot. Park near the door of the building and steer clear of big vans or trucks

Be aware- If you keep seeing the same person make sure to make eye contact with them so they know you recognize them.

Keep your distance- what should you do if you are being followed? Go towards other people or lit areas and walk into crowds

Keep your hands free- attackers prey on people who look like they would have trouble defending themselves. Instead of weighing yourself down with bags and boxes, use a shopping cart.

Withdraw with care- When using an ATM, position yourself so you can see all the people around you. Turn a bit sideways to get a good view behind you and make eye contact with everyone.

Use your keys- When you’re walking towards your car, keep your keys ready.

Check your car inside and out. As you approach your car, be sure to take a good look under and around it.
Watch for scammers- One common ploy of attackers is to pretend they’re selling perfume or other products out of their car. Keep your distance and tell you are not interested.

“The best tactical thing you can do is to keep your distance. Keep a personal safety zone.”

ATA's Going Green

ATA's Going Green

If you have read the latest ATA World Magazine you will see pictures and interviews from our ATA Maryland students on how we can help the environment. It all started last year while teaching a leadership class one of the students suggested we could help the community by recycling. That sparked my own thought process and I thought of all of the bottled water we use. Why not recycle them?
I estimate that we will save about 7,000 bottles from the landfill by the end of 2008. We are looking beyond just the local community as well. we donating $1 per water bottle sold to a charity foundation that helps provide clean drinking water to people who need it.

-Mr. Jason Morgan

For more ideas on helping your family go green check out the latest issue of ATA World Magazine or visit: www.earth911.org

Your Family's Story

Send us your Going Green story or share with us how you recycle at home or work. We are compiling a book and section of our website to include pictures, videos and stories from our students.

ATA's Going Green!

Check out the latest addition to ATA maryland! Our giant sized recycling bin.

I was inspired by a discussion during our junior leadership class last year to kick start our ATA recycling program. With the help of all of our members we are able to recycle hundreds of bottles each week. Recently ATA world magazine interviewed some of our members for an article on how they recycle at home. We are scheduling a photo shoot to accompany the article and would like your family to be included as well. Email us a brief description of your family's efforts to recycle and keep our earth green!

Also remember that 100 percent of every water bottle sold at ATA maryland is being donated to our clean water fund. Our goal is to raise enough funds to install and maintain a water well in a third world country.
