Safe Shopping & Self Defense Guidelines
Park Right- Park in the most well lit area in the parking lot. Park near the door of the building and steer clear of big vans or trucks
Be aware- If you keep seeing the same person make sure to make eye contact with them so they know you recognize them.
Keep your distance- what should you do if you are being followed? Go towards other people or lit areas and walk into crowds
Keep your hands free- attackers prey on people who look like they would have trouble defending themselves. Instead of weighing yourself down with bags and boxes, use a shopping cart.
Withdraw with care- When using an ATM, position yourself so you can see all the people around you. Turn a bit sideways to get a good view behind you and make eye contact with everyone.
Use your keys- When you’re walking towards your car, keep your keys ready.
Check your car inside and out. As you approach your car, be sure to take a good look under and around it.
Watch for scammers- One common ploy of attackers is to pretend they’re selling perfume or other products out of their car. Keep your distance and tell you are not interested.
“The best tactical thing you can do is to keep your distance. Keep a personal safety zone.”
